How I became a veggie: I've been a strict vegan over 6 1/2 years and vegetarian 19 years in May. I always had issues with eating meat, but growing up in southwestern Ohio my parents followed the USDA guidelines of steak and potatoes like everyone else who thought you'd be sick if you didn't. When I was 3 or so I used to ask where does this come from again and my mom would say, "We don't talk about that at the dinner table." Tried to eat veg but parents weren't about it. Stopped wearing leather when I was 9 and a year later my dad had a heart attack. I was in the room when his cardiologist told him he should eat vegetarian. From then on out whenever they'd try to get me to eat meat, I'd say "Don't you care about my heart? Remember what the doctor said." Nothing like a little reverse guilt psychology. Didn't know what vegan was, but kind of figured it out after sometime and only felt truly happy and at ease with my conscious once I made the transition.
