About Me: I'm a vegan, an anarchist, an obedient daughter, a questioner of authority, and a Catholic. So...pretty much I go for things that don't get along. I dream of some day actually getting out of my hometown and seeing some new horizons...cause mine is clogged.

How I became a veggie: I'm living proof that the person you least expect to be a vegetarian can even make it to become a freaking vegan! My dad's a hunter, and I was on the Atkins Diet for 5 whole disgusting years. I was, however, completely in love with animals, into volunteering at a no-kill animal shelter, I believed that all life is sacred, and two of my dearest friends were vegetarians. Two of us had gym together, and regularly would request a little bit of a break to save the worms from frying on the courts after it rained. The other one was very into prosletyzing (sic?) about vegetarianism, and I can't imagine anything that drove me further from vegetarianism than her condescension. However. When I was 17 I met a vegan who really just presented it as "this is something that I really believe in, and it makes me happy!" so I started thinking they weren't all crazy. Then I went to the San Francisco Vegetarian Festival and discovered that there were lots of people like that, that it wasn't a huge inconvenience, and it wasn't all about condescension! I went vegan and never looked back....well, I still sigh around cheese, but apart from that. The funny thing is once I separated from the mentality of "Eh, its difficult, and if I don't have to think about it..." I became super-passionate. So passionate in fact that, after asking me the preliminary questions about "where are you going to get your protein?" etc, Mama caught up with my infectious enthusiasm and went vegetarian herself! Now neither of us can imagine how we ever, EVER ate meat. Strange how the mind changes...My dad, my grandmother and my godmother all responded with a horrified "But...but...who will MARRY you?", and they have yet to come to the realization that, 4 years in, I'm never going back. Poor Papa. I don't think I could have broken his heart anymore if I'd married a republican. But there's still time.

Thank you, dear.
I laughed a whole lot while reading your section about going veggie, I think I equally broke my Pop's heart.

...Well worth it.

I did the Atkins diet, too, before I went vegetarian. That might've had something to do with it.

I'd like to talk to you about the clash of Catholicism and anarchism, and how you combine them.

Watch the proposals roll in from the veggie folk now that you put that out there. =) Welcome to Vegifide.
