Pizza Pi

"100% vegan pizzeria!" I ate here with a couple of omnivore friends so we went with the "Ex-Meatlover's pizza". The sauce was spicy but that may have been due to all the sausage and pepperoni piled on, sounds like I'm complaining but I'm not. Good stuff, but I think I'll try a different pizza next time.

Vegadeli

I went to Vegadeli for the first time last night with Potentiality (keith), Solace, and Vonlothringen. The woman at the counter gave me a sample of the chili which was amazing. It literally filled me with joy that everything on the menu was vegan...no having to ask "can I get that without egg" or "is there milk in this?" My friends seemed just as happy as I was. So after much talking to the owners and staring at the menu. Keith and I ordered the following:

Lula's Sweet Apothecary

Lula's Sweet Apothecary is a 100% vegan home-made ice cream shop! They carry strictly (i.e. no bone char sugar, artificial flavors, etc.) products. Ice cream cones, flurries with vegan butterfinger, ricemellow fluff sundays topped with a cherry, candy, etc. My friend and I tried a vegan "chubby hubby" -chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels in peanut butter ice cream and chocolate swirls. They rotate flavors from the traditional to childhood favorites like bubblegum! The creater Blythe is super sweet just like all of her products.

SipZ

Earlier this year I took a trip down to San Diego to visit my best friend who goes to college in La Jolla. As she is not vegan (nor are any of my friends) I proceeded to check local places via happycow.net. We found SipZ and decided to check it out for several reasons, one being it was close. The atmosphere was really cozy, the cups of water are very generous, and the menu was unlike any vegan eatery I had ever been to. Needless to say, we pigged out there for 2 days afterward.

Love Vita Cafe!

We are no connoisseur to vegan dining, but this food is delicious. The fried risotto balls are amazing- ricey on the inside, crunchy on the outside, and the "chicken" fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy... I'm still coming down from that one.

Go. Eat well. Be happy.

This gem of a restaurant is owned by two vegans in Salt Lake City, Utah. They are entirely organic vegetarian, but I believe most items on the menu are vegan. They have delicious cheese they make from yeast like no other cheese I have ever had before and their pizza night is always an interesting delight.
If you are in town- drop in for lunch or dinner.

Blossoming Lotus

This place was so yummy and way good for me too!

It is located in the Pearl District of Portland. It is actually inside the same building as "Yoga in the Pearl". You walk in and the cafe is to your right with about 16 or so seats for dining inside, but there are a few tables outdoors as well. We ate inside, next to the fountain, which Ocean (my son) really loved!

Sacred Grounds

If you ever find yourself on the East side of the Mississippi River in the St. Louis area, make a beeline to Sacred Grounds. There you will find a wide variety of tasty treats, eats, and drinks all for reasonable prices in a groovy atmosphere.

It is a coffee place and the coffee is good stuff. But they also have chai made on the premises and they're happy to make it with soy or rice milk for the lactose intolerant (me, I'm lactose intolerant by choice, being vegan and all).

Veganopolis

Ahh (sighs)…. a long road trip and it feels good to help a friend move out to a land that has yet to be explored. We came from Cheyenne that day to arrive 20 miles outside of Portland at 10:30pm. Tired and wanting a fresh start the next day we decided to stay overnight outside of the city. From the long drive, we were tired of the stale beans at Taco Bell and chemically altered veggies at Subway and just couldn't wait to taste the good vittles Portland had to offer. The first thing that next day, we rolled in downtown to a place called Veganopolis.

All Vegitarian and Vegan restaurant and cafe. Really great atmosphere. Servaice can occasionally be a bit slow, so be ready to wait. I've sampled just about the whole menu, and everything is very good. They also have smoothies and a large juice menu. They also have some raw options. The reuben (vegan and vegitarian) is really good, I also highly recomend the Liquid Earth Club. Full menu online.

Penny Licks

A newer ice cream shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Penny Licks serves organic ice cream and Temptation vegan ice cream by the corn-based biodegradable cup or cone (vegan option available). They also have a slew of Vegan Treats cakes, cookies, and pies. You can order a vegan ice cream brownie sunday with Chocolate Chip Cookie dough soy ice cream topped with housemade vegan fudge or strawberry topping with vegan whipped cream. The best though is the Penny Lick a $1.00 (a good price NYC) for a mini scoop aka Penny Lick.

Veggie Heaven

Veggie Heaven is staple food for me.
This small place next to the University of Texas campus primarily serves Chinese style dishes. Almost every dish is vegan with the exceptions being the few wraps that come with cheese. There are about 20 million different dishes that you can try, all vegan. Dishes contain tons of vegetables, rice or noodles, and either a type of fake meat or protein balls, aka Protein 2000, the top seller at Veggie Heaven.

Six months ago the vegan options were a little spare, but this spot offers a decent selection of healthy lunches. Salad is good, but definitely keep an eye out for the vegan egg salad sandwich, which is made with 5 Star Foodies vegan egg salad. Atmosphere is cool in the summer and warm in the winter, with good music, friendly workers and a laid back feeling conducive to working on your laptop. Watch out for the chocolates they serve with lunches that always have dairy in them.

Orean the Health Express

Whoa, today was my first experience with real vegan fast food. Everything on the menu is supposed to be vegan except for the quesadillas. The restaurant has no dining room so you have to either drive through or eat on one of the benches in front (which I did). It is surrounded by McDonald's, KFC, and others and I assume the building used to be some chain store.

The food was good, I had the "chicken" burger and fries. I still feel a little greasy but it was worth the experience.

Millville, NJ

Many vegetarian options on menu, most easily veganifiable. Quality varies with cook from good to excellent, modified breakfast burrito (available only until 11am most days) is delicious; ask them to sub potatoes, avocado, and sprouts for the egg & cheese. Grilled tofu sandwiches quite tasty (ask for no mayo, hopefully they will switch to Veganaise soon) available in several flavors, also good nacho platter. Soymilk smoothies recommended, soymilk also available for coffee. Friendly staff, willing to make modifications/substitutions for no extra charge.

Sticky Lips BBQ

Okay, I know how difficult it can be to go out to eat sometimes, especially with carnivore friends. Here's another place that I've found that accomodates both veggies and non alike.

Firstly, you have to know going in that you are walking into a traditional BBQ joint. There's blues playing and wall decor from yesteryear (in the forms of old magazine covers, license plates, baseball cards and news clippings), and yes...there will be food being grilled that we don't care for. If you can let it slide, you'll be glad you did.

The Heritage Cafe

Located at the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach, VA the Heritage (a new age store, health food store and cafe) is one of the very very few places in the area to even offer vegan options on the menu. The Heritage actually has a day dedicated to a vegan menu. I believe that it is Thursday.

Wild Ginger

I love going to Wild Ginger and ordering Basil Moo Shu rolls with the Haru sauce. I have cravings for that all the time. haha. This is a very good vegan restaurant...almost the entire menu is vegan. The staff is friendly and helpful, and can also tell you what's gluten free/wheat free. Everything on the menu is REALLY good, and it's all affordable. They also have a Brooklyn location on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg.

Pala Pizza

If you crave a really good pizza, this is the place for you. This restaurant does serve meat, but they offer vegetarian and vegan options, as well as a gluten free crust. The staff is very helpful, and the menu clearly states the veggie/vegan options. Make sure you say 100% vegan cheese! because they also offer a soy cheese that is not vegan. My all-time FAVORITE is the Pesto and Potato pizza!!! It is so good beyond words!
