How do you feel about Police Officers?

Most cops are good guys from my experience. Theres always a few bad apples in everything. To say "all are bad" is ignorant. It's like saying "all blacks are thugs and all hispanics are illegals"

I'm certain there are miriad reasons for becoming a cop but who is the person who wants to become one? The mentality behind the idea is quite disturbing.

I think most cops start out as sadistic low SE ego trippers and then mature on the job over time. The older ones are generally cooler than the younger ones. They are more inclined to talk than administer the beat down.

I've known many cops and just about all of them are psychopathic narcisists with all sorts of damage. Most of them are alcoholics too, which points more toward underlying issues that rot the soul. They are the tax collector's henchmen. (imagine longbearded emoticon here)

They are people just like you and I. Just because they have a uniform on does not mean they should be labeled as assholes or jerks. I treat them as anybody else. Anybody can get power trips, I had a store manager not refund my money for something when he should of pretty much because he was having a power trip. I think police get more of a bad image because people are afraid of them since they(police) have the power to take your freedom away and lock you up.

I don't necessarily like cops, but I think that they have the hardest job in the world along with school teachers.
Imagine dealing with the dregs of society on a daily basis.

i used to HATE cops. ive dealt with a good majority of them in my early teens LOL :P.
but i have met a couple of good cops out there. so while i still dont really like cops, i dont think ALL are corupt anymore. its good to know that there are a good few that act like human beings lol and not just assholes on a power trip. :p

I don't have a problem with cops. I have a problem with cops on a power trip!

These are the cops that pulled me over for my suspicious missing license plate! Which was attached to my missing bumper at the time.

Some cops are great. Some cops are terrible. They have a (generally) shitty job I would not want. So long as an officer respects people's constitutional rights, they're OK in my book.

When you see massive organized police repression (like in Minneapolis leading up to the RNC), I tend to be very... unhappy with it. When you see Federal Law Enforcement wasting resources surveilling above-ground animal rights, eco, and lefty groups as opposed to preventing real terrorism, I tend to be unhappy with it.

I (like most Americans) have a general distrust of authority. Police officers are Law Enforcement - and authority figures. As such, they catch a lot of flak - some of it deserved, some of it not.

I'm not "anti-cop" at all. I'm "anti-asshole". :-)

Police officers go out each day and interact with many people who don't respect them and many who actually hate them. How many of us would be capable of doing this sort of work any better?

We need to empower police to be peace workers.
