Are you environmentally conscious?

My veganism is very intertwined with my environmental beliefs. I've met so many veg*ns who aren't particularly environmentally conscious. I'm curious how others feel here and why. If not, why not?

that have been "made" in only the last 150 years ... ... ...
and that are present in the air , water ,and soil ....

I am a huge environmentalist- and do as much as I can and afford to help the cause, but I do have to say sometimes my veg/veganism butts heads with my natural self.... for instance, do I buy a product that is vegan and comes from across the country or do I buy the not so vegan product that is practically in my backyard.......? Any thoughts? Any similar situations??? Also, nail polish was an issue, I thought of starting up an organic, cruelty free salon, and while I did find vegan polish, I have yet to find polish that is full of chemicals... maybe i havent' looked hard enough.....

It was definitely something that swayed my choice to become a strict vegetarian and eventually a vegan. The cruelty and ethical reasons were my main reason but the environment was the second biggest factor.

Being vegan/vegetarian is one of the best environmental choices anyone can make. To me, I don't understand how some so-called environmentalists are not vegan or vegetarian yet, especially considering the evidence for global warming issue. Worldwide animal agriculture contributes more to global warming than total transporation, so being veg is the best carbon offset!

I think environmental issues, though, will eventually be addressed by certain veg people. They already made one of the best environmental choices by going veg - so eco-friendly cleaning solutions, etc. will follow.

I may not be a saint but I am very eco friendly and I have an affinity for trees, plant life as well as animals. The destruction of the rainforests hurts me deeply, along with the cruelty to the animals in the meat industry. I have always advocated environmentally friendly practices and I try to be an example to others.

I think it goes hand in hand as well. It's about respecting all of life, which includes Mother Nature. I can't even remember a time when my family did not recycle. Just last year I went paper free, plastic bags you get at stores are amazingly harmful to the environment. I bought canvas bags of different sizes and take them with me to any store I happen to go to. I have always bought natural cleaners, with no harsh chemicals. Like they said on Oprah's green show, clean is not a smell. Ditch all that clorox crap! I also live close to the downtown area in San Diego so I have cut down on my driving, I try to not use my car at least 2 days a week. I also bought a ULEV, ultra low emissions vehicle. I could really go on forever. I don't see it as something only us veg people should be doing, but something everyone should be doing. No healthy environment means no healthy people.

I think for many vegans and veggies who have made the choice to become one due to ethics and respect of life...environmentalism goes hand in hand. The issue of preserving the environment has the same motivation...to sustain, preserve, nourish, and respect life (in the form of the environment and to keep trash, pollutants, chemicals, and human waste influences, (in addition to logging, cutting, and unnecessary development) from causing more destruction and devastation to other animals and forms of life. I think if you're vegan for ethical reasons than you're also going to be environmentalist minded as well.

please recycle~*
A:

Yep. I am by no means the perfect environmentalist, but I do try to preserve our Earth by recycling, buying environmentally friendly detergents and such and I definitely do NOT litter. People who litter bug me. I believe everything is interrelated and so yes, this is a very important aspect of my veganism as well.
