For me, it would have to be Conflict. they created a huge uproar with their animal rights tactics. on their records they would print the addresses, phone numbers of animal testers and created huge stirs. they were pretty instrumental in openly and flagrantly calling out animal abuse. other notables would be Crass, GoGos, Youth of Today (why i went veg), Nausea, Antischism, The Smiths, Earth Crisis, GB, etc.
Michael Franti is just about my fav and he is so all about love and peace and tolerance, all that hippy bullshit:). the band he works with a lot is Spearhead and I don't know as much about them as him. i've seen him twice live (first time i saw him open for juno reactor and i didn't know who he was) i just can feel my blood pressure drop usually when i hear him. i've got a bunch of his stuff on my page. the first time i saw him i heard somebody yell, "thank you for the love" and he was all blushing and bashful, i fell in love with him right there. and the fact that he's always barefoot in concert and just jumps up and down the whole time - i LOVE that energy. he's a tall guy and i find him incredibly attractive...doesn't hurt right???
Fall Of Efrafa are a really great band and all the members are vegan. Other great bands (who i think are vegan..definitely involved in animal rights stuff..) are Active Slaughter, Conflict, Burnt Cross, Liberty and loadsa anarcho punk bands. Pog have got a song called 'Go vegan you cow sucking pervert', one of the best song titles i've ever heard!
I love all of the bands already mentioned but I have to include AFI...2 of them are vegan and 2 are veg and most of their crew are vegan/veg as well...
Oh man there are so many to choose from but some of my top are of course Gather,7 Generations,Dropdead,Disrupt, OLD Earth Crisis, Giant (they're absolutely amazing), and His Hero is Gone. I'll stop myself before I get too carried away.
Skinny Puppy has been my favorite since I was just wee tot. However- Monica Richards from Faith And The Muse is kicking ass. Some of her music and perfoming with conflict: http://www.myspace.com/monicarichardsmusic
I met her when she was in town last and she is super nice. And she is part of the punk rock AR Anima Mundi: Anima MundiUploaded by nihilism A pretty crappy video.
Bright Eyes.
They are my favorite band, and Conor Oberst is a vegitarian, though i think he has been vegan, and wor a while was eating fish, but last time I chaecked he was back to vegitarian.

Doesn't Moby get any love in here? Ooonce Ooonce Ooonce OoonceOoonceOoonce...I was a fan of his before I went veggie, and especially so now. Moby on 16 years of meatless living...I think it's cool that André 3000 is veg too.
I-spy. That was Todd's band before he took up bass in propagandhi, and they rocked. They played the first vegan song I ever heard, called 60 billion sold. I'm going to have to sing it for you now :)
"I've worn them on my feet
I've used them for food
been in love with their beauty
and been taught not to care
I've killed them for convenience
how could I be so inhuman?
Never meant to hurt... but I have."
conflict
antimaniax (they have a song called "Chile con Tofu")
flux of pink indians
gorilla biscuits
antischism
rudimentary peni
nausea
icons of filth
dropdead
something i didn't see: Ghost Mice.
a little indie-folk band formed in bloomington, indiana.
they back-packed through europe and wrote an album about it.
they have other albums, but that one is my favorite.
check 'em out.
i don't think hardly anyone has heard them.
velvet acid christ, skinny pups, suicide commando, brutal truth... those are my favorite.
i mainly listen to vegan bands. Especially those with strong messages :)
In response to the answer below this, Earth Crisis had nothing to do with my asking. In fact, I couldn't care less about Earth Crisis, I've never been into it. I asked simply because I was hoping to be exposed to some bands that I was unaware of.
I was thinking about this the other day, and how it seemed like a few years back I use to be into a lot of vegan bands and players. I remember sharing a vegan pizza with two of the guys from Boysets fire... yeeeeaaarrs ago.
Though right now most of the bands I listen to, has nothing to do with the lyrics. There's a few newer poli bands I listen to, but most of the vegan bands I can name are stuff like Morrissey/the smiths, Propagandhi, KDC, stuff like that.
I wonder if the Earth Crisis reunion, made this question come up. ha ha.
Gather, 7 Generations, Refused, Rise Against, Anti-Flag and some others.
The drummer for Fall Out boy is the only vegan in the band, so i guess I can't count them.
And I'm not sure if anyone else besides Jay in The Suicide Machines are vege, but yeah.
