If there was a way to guarantee that the animals were treated well and their deaths were painless, would you eat meat again?
Posted Answers
A:Flesh is still flesh.
exploitation and death still would hold the same meaning for me.
unnatural deaths im not important enough to be the cause of.
no no and again......no
The real fucked up part about the whole cloned meat thing is that cloned meat still came from a living creature. they make more and more of it this pig or cow died so we could pretend were doing something. Who the hel are they fooling? they wouldnt use it to ease world hunger.I dont believe that for a second.

A:The situation which you describe would never exist, by definition.
If someone decided to keep someone in captivity and exploit, kill then eat them without their full expressed consent , and did so completely unprovokedly, then i would regard that as appalling due to being ethically and morally obnoxious.....
Why do you feel that anyone here should be expected to regard that as a situation where the first person is treating the other one "well" ?
I didn't eat dead bodies to begin with, and have no intention of taking it up in the future.

A:Hells no. Meat is Murder. (maybe roadkill.. dead anyway. Have to do something about the maggots, though). Maybe we could start frying up child molesters for the die hard meat-eaters! The pope is in town; maybe he knows where we could find some.

A:It doesn't matter if it was "cruelty free", which I don't believe is possible anyway. Our bodies were not designed to eat meat. We don't have carnivore teeth, we don't have the acids in our stomachs that carnivores have to digest meat, we don't have the reflexes to catch animals without the use of weapons. We're herbivores, plain and simple.

A:No such thing-death is death.
As to natural death, well ew that means the animal died for a reason which isn't natural for any person to then consume i.e. cause of "natural" death blood born pathogen, rabies, etc. Our bodies are good at scavenging dead carcass murdered by another animal not scavenging pestilence ridden flesh.
Even lab created crap originated from animal testing and animal derivatives

A:No. Even if animals lived on a sanctuary and peacefully passed away I don't think I could bring myself to partake in their flesh. I think it would be okay to give their meat to truly carnivorous animals, though.

A:seems a bit of an oxymoron to me! not convinced you could guarantee any meat to be cruelty free??
personally i wouldn't eat meat (obviously that doesn't include the unlikely situation where i had the option of
starvation or eating an animal, impossible to know what would happen in that case but imagine survival instincts might kick in!) But eating meat out of choice, no way would i do that.

A:I Really Really Don't Believe That I Would Start Eatting Meat Again Even If They Did Tell Me This. I Mean A Life Is A Life To Me And Just Because They Killed Them Painlessly, They Were Still Killed And Will Not Expeirence Any Beautiful Things In Life. I Would Be A Little Happier That They Weren't Going To Endure Pain While They Were Being killed For Other People Consumption.... Why Doesnt The Whole World Just Go Veggie??? They Should Make It A Law... :)

A:I wouldn't, because eating flesh is just creepy, cloned or not.
"Cave men killed and ate animals." Early humankind hunted for survival, because the gathering (of plants, etc) alone often wasn't sufficient to sustain life. We can survive fine, better, in fact, in the present without the consumption of animals--it only continues because of the fatal addiction of convenience and resistance to change.

A:That's hard to say. I haven't been a veggie that long, 7 months, so sometimes there are still those monents I wnat to eat meat, all though they don't come that often, but I just can't. I will admit there are some types of meat I "miss" or think I do anyway, but truth is, even it they weren't killed so horrifically, just the health aspect is enough to say no.

A:The only two ways that I know that meat can be cruelty free is for meat to be "grown" in a lab or for the animal to die naturally.
To wait for animals to die naturally would be cost prohibitive. And neither option does anything for your health. But either option would reduce the suffering of animals.
Either way it will never taste as good as pineapple or asparagus. =-) So no.

A:That's impossible. Meat is, by definition, not cruelty free. As far as I'm concerned, exploitation of any kind counts as cruelty. Even if they were killed in the most painless way possible and lived a "happy" life, eating meat is cruel. Period.

A:Would it be harder to explain to people why I don't eat meat if the cruelest practices were banned from the world? Yes. But I see animals as my companians, my equals. I personally feel that truly good people repsect all living things, and eating them is not what I would call respectful. So, obviously I can say I will never eat meat ever again, regardless of factory farm conditions.

A:The issue of growing meat in a laboratory setting was addressed in the July/August 2006 issue of Vegetarian Times. I appreciate the idea behind it (eliminating slaughterhouses/factory farms) for those that do eat meat. I do support the idea and encourage the research. If it becomes cost-effective, it could do good things for the worldwide hunger problem, and be a viable cruelty-free alternative for pets and omnivores. I also imagine that it would have great environmental benefits over the current factory farm system.
However, I personally wouldn't chose to eat it for a few reasons. Being vegetarian forces me to make food choices that are healthy since I'm cutting out what was (at one time) a major source of protein/energy/calories/etc. Because I'm not eating meat, I have to consider how I'll get my protein, and as a result I consider how I get other nutrients too. It's become a good habit to consider all of these things and my health has benefited from it.
I became veg to avoid the cruelty, but in learning more about the lifestyle, I appreciate the other reasons to STAY veg. Meat being "cruelty-free" wouldn't change that.

A:Hypothetically, if cloned meat is available without the killing of animals, then there are no slaughterhouses and no problems associated with slaughterhouses...hypothetically speaking...so who would care if someone else chose to eat GMO test tube meat even if it is still unhealthy? I don't necessarily care about people's health...I prefer no animal suffering over someone's self-inflicted heart disease and obesity...I would never eat meat again and even cringe over some faux meat because it's too darn close! Even if the animals weren't being tortured, I still wouldn't eat meat; although, I'm for animal welfare as a means to an end since people won't change overnight and suffering needs to be allieviated.
