Unrealized Realizations From Omnis

yesterday i sat outside with my co-workers after lunch supervising our kiddos on the playground. one of them commented that she didn't feel well at all. i asked her if she had the flu or a headache or had been sick lately (since i'd been on vacation for a while and hadn't seen her for about a week). she told me it was her stomach and that she was pretty sure that it was what she ate for lunch. i asked her what she had, and she told me she had eaten a chicken-and-cheese quesedilla from the caffeteria.

"it feels like there's something in my stomach that just *doesn't* belong there."

uuum... perhaps the dead animal? =/ but i kept my thoughts to myself.

I think you should have told

I think you should have told her that and then told her where chickens come from. I do this to my nephews all of the time and drives my sister crazy. Tee Hee...

i almost blurted it right out, but i've become bad (good?) at censoring myself. =/

she's one of the people who told me she started watching "Earthlings" (posted on my myspace profile) but couldn't watch more than the first five minutes of it because "it was just too sad". d-e-n-i-a-l.

That's interesting. As I've gotten older, I've gotten worse about keeping my mouth shut it seems. hehehe.

As an aside, I've never seen "Earthlings" either for the same reasons I've never seen "Clockwork Orange" or "Requiem for a Dream." I'm off topic and I'm not defending her, just an observation for observation's sake. :)

yeah, i'm not sure if my self-censorship is a good thing or a bad thing. hmmmm.

as to earthlings and the other movies... what reasons would that be? i haven't seen those movies, either, but just because i haven't gotten around to checking them out yet. have you seen "American Psycho" or watched "Dexter"? there are a lot of disturbing movies and shows out there - both real and fictional. i'm not saying that people necessarily have to watch everything to get the point, but that many people in general are in denial about real-life situations and would rather be blind to things that matter (and call the situation "sad") than to face the truth and make changes in their lives.

Heh. That's funny you say

Heh. That's funny you say that, because I'm really not sure that having a harder time keeping my mouth shut is a good thing or a bad thing either. Especially at places like work!

See, I like Dexter. :) I've never seen Clockwork Orange because I'm not cool with watching the rape scene, even though I know it's fiction. Never saw Requiem (even though I love PI, another of his films) b/c I already know drugs can be bad and everyone told me that it's the most miserable two hours of your life you'll never get back. Never watched Earthlings either b/c I went veg without seeing it, and I already know factory farming is bad, etc.

I know you weren't saying that. And I totally agree with ya. I was at work a couple days ago and my coworkers were talking about food, and the conversation somehow ended up with someone making a comment on how awful it is that some people eat dogs. I was like, soooo...why is it so terrible to eat dogs but not pigs and cows? They're all animals, right? At which point my boss (who's veg) said something to the effect of, 'now karla...' lol. I shut up after that. hehehe.

i think it's like a domino-effect. once i say something in defense of animals (sarcastic or not), the other person says something and then i would have to say something *else* and get all defensive and lose my rationality as would the other person. ;P i still need to work on my public speaking skills. in the meantime, i've just been keeping most of my thoughts to myself. hmmm.

i never really heard about requiem one way or another, and i completely forgot about the rape scene that's supposed to be (is) in clockwork. those are fiction, tho', and it's not like you rape people or are addicted to drugs and are refusing to see those movies so that you don't have to see the truth and horror of what you do or are supporting.

i went veg many, many, many, many years before seeing earthlings, but i still watched most of it. i definitely didn't *need* to see all of that since i already know about factory farming and the other issues, but it *was* another thing that helped me drop my dairy addiction. it just unnerves me when people refuse to watch movies/documentaries because something's "so sad" and yet continue to directly support that very thing that causes them to feel that way. anyway, you know what i'm saying.

(i know this response is a bit delayed, but my computer's all screwy and lost my internet connection the other night. bah!)
