MY HEART IS BREAKING!

i have a chihuahua that has been is my family for 8 almost 9 years now. her name is Pixie and i have had her since she was FIRST born! she was sooo tiny she could fit in my hand when i got her! i raised her , and i love her dearly. i live in an apartment that does not allow pets like dogs or cats....only birds and ,fish, hamsters. anyways my dog has been with my mom for the last year in a half living in alabama. she has ALWAYS been with someone in our family. but my mom moved back here to texas and is now living with us. my grandpa has been watching my dog for a month now with the help of my aunt. but my grandpa called today and said his landlord saw him walking her and so now he has to get rid of her.
we have been trying to find a new place to live that is in our budget and can acomadate all of us and hopefully allow pets. we have had no luck.
i think i am going to HAVE to give my little dog up for adoption to a local NO-KILL shelter!
i feel HORRIBLE. i feel like i am abandoning her!
i keep seeing this image in my head of her waging her tail because she gets to see me, then i take her there and hand her over and she is pouting while i just leave her with strangers. she will be alone in a kinel with noisy dogs and have strange people handeling her. and she will always be expecting me or my mom to walk throught the door and take her home! and then if she gets adopted out they will probly change her name and confuse her. and there is no guarantee that they will keep her....what if they dont like her and give her to some shelter that isnt "no-kill"?!
my heart is breaking with the thought of doign this but i really dont have any other options. :(
this is making me sick.
i have to figure something out by the 1rst of october....most likely im going to have to put her in the no-kill shelter.
i just cant imagine doing this to her and what she will be thinking and feeling. how horrible to be part of a family ALL your life and to suddenly be put in a shelter where there are no familiar faces or anything! she is going to feel so abandoned.
i feel like a bad person.
this sucks.
i just dont know what else to do. we really dont seem to have any other options.
i guess all i can hope for is that she finds a loving, permanent home to take care of her.
:(

thank you all. i found a

thank you all.
i found a local chihuahua rescue in sananonio that i might have to take her to. they have foster homes until they can find them permanent homes. we also found a bigger place to live that we are checking out, if the landlord will allow us to have pets we might be able to keep her! :)
so though im still stressed/depressed with this, atleast there is better options then the local shelters.
i will update again soon.

I'm sorry to hear you have

I'm sorry to hear you have to make this kind of decision. I wanted to share a couple of resources with you - there are chihuahua rescue groups all over the nation, including Texas.

You might see if there any local humane society groups in your area who can help you find a foster home or new permanent home for your little one.

Good luck and please do keep us posted.

Maybe you can find a friend

Maybe you can find a friend who will take care of her till you can find a place. Any friend or family member?

Sorry to hear about all of this.

I really hope it works out. please keep us posted.
I agree, you should really try a foster person. They will keep her till you have things settled and family can even visit.
If i lived closer Id take her in :)

She sounds like a little

She sounds like a little doll. It's ashame that you don't have any friends that could take her in for a while.

((((Hugs)))))) I know how

((((Hugs))))))

I know how you feel. I moved into a place that wouldn't allow me to take my cat that I've had for 10 years (since she was born a stray outside my house). Since I've lived here, she's been with my mom. But with my moms illnesses, it's been hard for her to take care of her. Now, my mom is moving to live with my brother in NC, and he refuses to take any new pets. So she will have to go somewhere. I've got about 3 weeks to find a place for her. And she'll be scared to death anywhere else. It's hard, and it sucks!

I hope you find something good for your dog! Wish the same for me!

If you just need to buy more

If you just need to buy more time, I would try to board her at a vet or a kennel. I think they are just like 10 bucks a day or less. You can go and visit her every day, take her for walks, etc. That can give you more time to think of the best arrangement. Maybe you'll find a friend who can keep her for a few weeks until you can get a new place. Maybe your apt. would be willing to accept a deposit for you to keep her? Good luck!!

ETA: as Molly said, another possibility would be to try calling a foster group that might be willing to keep her for a few weeks until you work out a place to have her.

Those shelters are horrible,

Those shelters are horrible, What about a foster home or a chihuahua rescue? The breed rescues are really good about fostering and re-homing appropriately.Save a chicken:)
