How does your garden grow?
|
I am inspired by the raw foodies and vegans in my life and am moving toward that direction myself. Yet, my favorite being is a freegan, and so we often eat and/or cook whatever he manages to find. This being the case, we often have very very sad looking produce. He used to be a vegan but the freegan lifestyle has changed all that. He often brings up his vegan days and how he wishes he could have the best of both worlds. Well, I don't have a backyard, but I do have some outdoor space with sunlight. So, containers were the natural answer. I managed, through freecycle.org and old stuff lying around my parents house, to gather a nice variety of containers. We're talking milk crates, five gallon buckets, even some wicker baskets. I went to the nursery and bought plenty of organic potting soil and a few little organic plants. My garden is only a few days old now, but it has three varieties of lettuce, three varieties of heirloom tomatoes, zucchini and some beautiful rainbow chard. These are all from the nursery. What I am really excited about is that I have done some good searching on the net and figured out that I can also grow onions, garlic, ginger, peas, green beans, potatoes, and sprouts all from the stuff I buy at a farmers market or grocery store! So, needless to say, I am uber excited about having such fresh organic vegetables at my fingertips and partaking in another activity that helps out Mother Earth. Fri, 04/04/2008 - 3:13am — hifiorange

You know I can grow basil like it's nobody's business, but when it comes to mint it's a stubborn little thing. Good luck to you in your little garden;)

I have to second that. It does indeed sound wonderful! Fantastic actually. I have been hoping to start my own container garden but I am a bit busy. Let us know how it goes. =-)
